The Making of an EPIC Employee

What defines an EPIC leader? At Cable Bahamas Group, leadership doesn’t have just one face.

For many years, we have held a proud tradition of recognizing employees who have gone above and beyond. That legacy was elevated in 2022, when we launched EPIC awards. The recognition program celebrates the people who bring values of excellence, integrity and a people-focused/customer-first mindset to the workplace every day.

This year’s four honorees have shown there is no single blueprint for success.

Keith Lightbourn, staff of the year, holds a philosophy he says, has always been about consistency and quiet excellence. As an engineer, he has spent nearly two decades behind-the-scenes, often standing in the gap to help keep Bahamians connected during some of the most critical national crises.

“Keep going and put your best foot forward,” said Keith. “One day it’s going to be recognized. Your work will speak for itself.”

Sandia Miller, MBA, executive assistant to the CEO and supervisor of the year, helps drive collaboration across the organization by bringing together executives and cross-functional teams. She reminds us that impact is not driven by title.

“Bring your superpower,” said Sandia. “Once you do that, you automatically shine into who you are.”

For Janelle Hutcheson, senior manager of training and culture, winning manager of the year was the ultimate reward for leading with integrity. As one of the first people new hires meet, she believes trust is built by consistently following through on your commitments.

“I pride myself on keeping my word,” said Janelle. “If I say I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it.”

And for Brittney Fountain, MPM, director of the year, success is measured not only by business results, but by the people you also help develop along the way. As director of marketing, she leads a dynamic team that dares to challenge the status quo.

“Seeing people grow in confidence, take on new responsibilities and achieve their own success is my reward,” said Brittney.
