Beyond HR: How Newly Appointed VP of HR Turned Leadership into Purpose

Before she was helping people build their careers, Keshala Knowles thought she’d spend her life saving children’s lives.

She possessed a fiery desire to help others. She set her sights upon pediatric care until one defining moment shifted her on a new course: one that would span decades, cross industries and ultimately lead her to the executive suite at Cable Bahamas, where she is now appointed Vice President of Human Resources.

A Change of Heart That Sparked a Calling

In her early teen years, Keshala imagined herself in medicine. But an incident when an occurred while helping to care for her newborn nephew, she realized medicine was not her life’s calling.

“That moment made me realize I didn’t want to spend my life working in medicine,” she recalled with a smile. “I loved helping people, but maybe not in that way.”

Then, fate intervened. In 1997, a young HR professional visited her high school to speak about careers in human resources, describing how fulfilling it was to help others find their purpose, chart their career paths, and grow into their potential.

“It was at this time that I made a decision to help people in a different way” Keshala said. “Not as a doctor treating patients, but by helping adults find direction and success in their own lives.”

That single encounter reshaped her purpose. Though the field was not as popular as it is today, Keshala made a quiet, yet fierce decision. As written in her high school yearbook, she would become a leader in the field of human resources.

    A Career Built on Purpose

Over the next two decades, Keshala charted her career with precision and purpose.

“This appointment represents the fulfillment of a goal I set for myself early in my career,” she shared. “From the very beginning, I’ve been intentional about every step: the education I pursued, the mentors I aligned with and the opportunities I embraced along the way.”

Her journey took her across industries — aviation, hospitality, finance, and telecommunications — giving her a rare 360-degree perspective in her field. Along the way, she held senior leadership roles in talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, labor relations, and employee engagement, earning a reputation as a people-first strategist who understands that culture drives performance.

“I’ve always been guided by mentorship, authenticity, integrity, and continuous learning and growth,” she said. “Those values shape how I show up as a leader and how I help others show up for themselves.”

    Leadership Through Intention

When Keshala joined Cable Bahamas Group as Director of Human Resources, she quickly became known for her collaborative leadership and her ability to align people development with business goals.

Her promotion to Group Vice President of Human Resources marks not just a personal achievement, but the fulfillment of an almost 30-year vision.

“One of my areas of focus is developing people,” she explained. “Helping them to better understand their value, how their work contributes to the bigger picture, and how they can grow into the best version of themselves.”

As she steps into her new role as Group Vice President, her focus lies on deepening the company’s investment in talent development, strengthening collaboration across departments, aligning performance and reward using data, and strengthening employee recognition initiatives.

“Along with the leadership team, I want to facilitate a culture where employees are not only supported but inspired to own their professional growth,” she said. “That means investing in leadership and skill development, creating clear pathways for growth, and recognizing the behaviors that truly drive our success. When our people feel valued, empowered and engaged, the entire organization thrives.”

    Thinking Beyond HR

As the human resources field continues to evolve, it’s important to expand beyond policies and process. She believes HR leaders have a responsibility to think strategically and to understand the full landscape of the business they serve. “Today, human resources is at an inflection point, and key to our success is understanding human capabilities and stakeholder value”, Keshala shared.

“Think beyond HR,” she advised. “Position yourself as a strategic organization leader. People often see HR as an administrative support function, but in order to be effective you must align HR practices to business strategy and that cannot be achieved in a silo. Some of my most influential mentors weren’t HR professionals. They were VPs of Operations, Finance, and others who worked in key leadership roles throughout the organization. That exposure helped me develop a leadership mindset and become a business leader with HR expertise at my core.”

It’s a philosophy that has shaped not only her career but the culture she’s helping to foster at Cable Bahamas: one where HR is a driver of growth, not a department of checking the box.

    Walking in Purpose

While her career is a story of discipline and determination, Keshala is the first to say that her success is not hers alone. Her journey from aspiring pediatrician to Group Vice President of Human Resources at Cable Bahamas is a story about the power of believing in what you’re called to do and not shying away from it.

When asked about her advice to young professionals searching for their fit in the workplace, her response is simple but powerful: stay curious, keep an open mind, and never stop learning.

“Every opportunity is a chance to grow,” she says. “Raise your hand, take the risk, and be visible. When you speak, add value. Growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone.”

True leadership in HR exceeds title and for Keshala Knowles, her purpose in profession and in life has always been clear: to help people, empower change and lead with faith.

  • Strong Future Outlook Drives Cable Bahamas’ Return to Quarterly Dividends

Strong Future Outlook Drives Cable Bahamas’ Return to Quarterly Dividends

Nassau, The Bahamas – September 15th, 2025 —Cable Bahamas Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has resumed a
quarterly dividend program, declaring an 8-cent dividend for the first quarter of Financial Year 2026. This marks a return to quarterly payouts from the previously semi-annual cadence and is a clear signal of the Group’s strong financial position, positive outlook, and disciplined execution.

The Board of Directors has approved a quarterly dividend program in support of its belief that the investment in the company’s fibre to the home network in New Providence is substantively complete and the growth of its ALIV mobile services is now maturing with both fixed and mobile networks recently winning OOKLA awards for best networks in the Caribbean and The Bahamas. While continued conversion of customers to the groups ALIV Fibr network is expected through December 2026 the overall performance of the business remains strong and free cash flows are expected to continue to improve as CAPEX investments ramp down.

This move is a testament to Cable Bahamas’ strong financial performance and the long-term success of its strategic investments across mobile, broadband, and fibre-to-the-home infrastructure. The company’s ability to provide returns shareholders while continuing to invest in critical national infrastructure reflects its operational strength and commitment to sustainable growth.

“We are proud to return to quarterly dividends and reward our shareholders with a meaningful yield,” said Franklyn Butler II, Group CEO. “This decision reflects our confidence in the business, the strength of our cash flows, and the impact of years of focused, strategic investment in future-ready technology and infrastructure.”

  • Cable Bahamas Cares: Fueling Compassion with a $10,000 Gift to the Bahamas Humane Society

Cable Bahamas Cares: Fueling Compassion with a $10,000 Gift to the Bahamas Humane Society

In a powerful show of community support, the Cable Bahamas Cares Foundation has donated $10,000 to the Bahamas Humane Society, helping fund a much-needed emergency vehicle that will transform how the nonprofit responds to animal welfare calls across the nation.

Unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Humane Society’s Chippingham Headquarters, the donation is a signal of renewed energy and partnership between local businesses and the organizations that quietly serve the community every day.

    Speed Saves Lives

The Bahamas Humane Society has long been a trusted name in animal care and advocacy. But in urgent situations, time is everything. The new emergency vehicle will give the Society the speed and mobility it needs to respond faster to distress calls: from rescuing a stray or assisting an injured pet to responding to animal cruelty reports. It’s a step that improves not just animal welfare, but public health.

    Kindness in Action

Kim Aranha, President of the Bahamas Humane Society, called the gift “a perfect display of generosity, kindness, and giving, which isn’t prevalent nowadays.” She also credited her team, including Anabeth Maura, for championing the cause from within.

Moving Forward with Cable Bahamas Cares Foundation

“Whether it’s connecting families, supporting businesses, or lending a hand to organizations like the Bahamas Humane Society, our mission is to show up for every corner of the community and make a meaningful difference wherever we can,” said Amber Carey, Vice President of Marketing & Consumer Solutions at Cable Bahamas Group.

That spirit is fueling the next chapter for the Cable Bahamas Cares Foundation, as the Group revamps its charitable arm with renewed purpose. With fresh momentum, they’re gearing up to launch new partnerships and grants, aiming to expand their impact and reach even more communities across The Bahamas.

  • It Takes a Village: ALIV Partners with Multiple Organizations for Back-To-School

It Takes a Village: ALIV Partners with Multiple Organizations for Back-To-School

We often take simple things for granted: a notebook, a pen or a bag to carry our supplies. But providing these simple “forgettable” items can go a long way during one of the most expensive times of the year for parents. In the weeks leading up to the new school year, ALIV sought to fill the needs of the community, alleviating some of the many back-to-school expenses.

ALIV partnered with One Stapledon Association, Golden Gates, Urban Renewal Yamacraw, The Nassau Guardian and Grand Bahama Urban Renewal Center to deliver school supplies, donate local barber and salon coupons, hand out a free meal and spend quality time with kids as a small token of our dedication to serving the community.

“Initiatives like this bring home our mantra: community at our heart and core,” said Keshala Knowles, Director of Human Resources, who led the effort at Elizabeth Estates alongside Urban Renewal Yamacraw.

At each stop, local partners echoed a common theme: the need is real, and consistent support matters.

“A lot of parents and families are experiencing economic difficulty during this time,” said Anita Rolle of the Nassau Guardian. “This event exceeded my expectations.”

That’s exactly why ALIV partnered with local organizations—to combine efforts and bring real relief to families.

“Being present with our customers—and even non-customers—and seeing the impact firsthand, that’s the best form of service we can give,” said Taja Longley, ALIV Communications Representative.

For some parents, the most meaningful part was being able to pay it forward. One mother, grateful for the support she and her son received, saw a chance to extend that kindness. “Not everybody has it. Whatever extra I get, I share with my neighbor.”

By meeting everyday needs with care and consistency, ALIV reminded families that they are not alone. A small gesture—a bag, a haircut, and a hot meal—can open the door to something bigger: a stronger, more connected community where everyone has a chance to start the school year with confidence and peace of mind.

  • 3 Ways ALIVFibr Transforms Your Home into a Gaming Hub

3 Ways ALIVFibr Transforms Your Home into a Gaming Hub

Imagine this: you and your teammates are just minutes away from victory, but in the heat of the final battle, someone at home starts their nightly binge-watch on their favorite streaming channel, causing your game to lag. Suddenly, you’re no longer immersed. And your victory? Gone. Your teammates are in your headphones grappling with this betrayal. Someone (rightfully) rage quits.

In our increasingly connected world, multiple devices are often battling for the best connection, inevitably leading to slowdowns and interference. Fortunately, with ALIVFibr’s cutting-edge fiber technology, these disruptions become a thing of the past. ALIVFibr doesn’t just provide lightning-fast internet – it transforms your home into a fortified gaming hub. You can now enjoy seamless, uninterrupted gameplay while everyone else remains connected. Here’s how:

    1. No More Lagging

Whether you’re deep into a fast-paced first-person shooter game or immersed in a strategy game that demands split-second decisions, ALIVFibr’s ultra-low latency ensures that your commands are registered instantly. This is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge, especially in an online multiplayer setting where every fraction of a second counts. With ALIVFibr’s fast upload speeds, you can play faster and smarter, staying one step ahead of your opponents at all times.

    2. Skip The Loading Screen

You sit down after a long day and finally power on your console, excited to blow off some steam, when you’re struck with the infamous “update now.” What starts as “30 minutes remaining” quickly turns into “try again tomorrow.” Your regular broadband simply cannot keep up with the constant updates, patches and massive file downloads required for modern gaming.

With ALIVFibr’s impressive bandwidth capabilities –offering speeds up to 1Gbps – you’ll be playing more and waiting less. Large files that once took hours to download are now ready in a fraction of the time. This efficiency not only enhances your gaming experience, but also ensures you’re always prepared for the final battle or the next intense multiplayer session without any inconvenience.

    3. Game Without Interference

Think about how many devices you own and use every day that are connected to Wi-Fi. Now think about all the devices that everyone else in your household uses every day. With everyone streaming music, playing videos, and bouncing between apps on their smart TVs, your network can get congested, causing your gaming session to suffer. ALIVFibr’s smart Wi-Fi technology solves this problem by intelligently managing your home’s network traffic. It’s designed to adapt to your household’s demands in real-time, ensuring that each device gets the necessary bandwidth without compromising others. This means you can game with confidence, knowing that your connection remains strong and reliable.

With the Nokia Wi-Fi management app, you have even more control over your network. About to play in a big tournament? See who’s connected at any given time and easily prioritize your gaming traffic to ensure optimal performance. Whether you need to boost your console’s connection during a crucial match, or limit other devices’ usage, the Nokia apps makes it simple with just a few taps.

As a gamer, a fast and reliable connection isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity. • Cable Bahamas Hosts Drive with Great Commission Ministries to Provide Vital Support to Bahamian Families

Cable Bahamas Hosts Drive with Great Commission Ministries to Provide Vital Support to Bahamian Families

In a powerful demonstration of corporate and community collaboration, we recently joined forces with Great Commission Ministries to host a donation drive aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals and families across New Providence.

Cable Bahamas employees came together from departments across the organization to donate boxes filled with critical necessities for many in the community who struggle to access them daily.

“This initiative was a heartfelt initiative for Cable Bahamas,” said Larissa Delancy, Strategic Partnerships & Events Coordinator. “We had employees from all different departments donate essential items that so many persons don’t have the opportunity to access on a day-to-day basis. We take these things for granted. This is why we decided to partner with Great Commission – because this is what they do.”

The Great Commission Ministries team emphasized the value of presence and human connection in service to others.

“We serve hot, delicious meals to 450-600 persons every day,” said Dr. Tamalia Gibson, Executive Director of Great Commission Ministries. “A lot of times people want to be active in giving back. You want to donate financially, donate groceries…but you also want to have a role in smiling with someone, giving them a handshake, a hug or an encouraging word.”

As Great Commission Ministries continues to expand its outreach and deepen its impact, Cable Bahamas is proud to stand alongside them in ongoing partnership. Together, we remain committed to meeting the needs of our people.
