What does joy look like in the lives of high performing women?
For a group of leaders across The Bahamas, the answer lies not just in emotion but in systems, values, and intentional living.
Inspired by the book Hello Joy: How to Feed the Spirit Without Neglecting Your Soul, a recent panel by Kerel Pinder brought together women who are making waves in their industries to discuss how they cultivate joy while navigating demanding careers and full lives.
Among the panelists was Keshala Knowles, Group Vice President of Human Resources for the Cable Bahamas Group of Companies, alongside Domonique Pinder, Operations Manager at Celebration Key, Lyndah Wells, luxury wedding photography entrepreneur, and Alex Pelanne, Operations Manager at The Fitness Connection.
Each woman shared her perspective on how joy shows up in her life.

Joy Is a Choice
One of the key themes from the discussion was the idea that joy is not something that simply happens. It is something that must be intentionally built.
In a world where many people operate on routine and muscle memory, the panel encouraged the audience to pause and reflect on the systems they put in place in their everyday lives.
The choices we make daily, they explained, ultimately shape the kind of life we experience.
Different Paths to Joy
Each panelist brought a unique perspective to the conversation.
Domonique Pinder reflected on how joy is often rooted in family and relationships, sharing how her personal life shapes her outlook and resilience.
Lyndah Wells, who has built one of the leading luxury wedding photography brands in The Bahamas, spoke about the entrepreneurial journey and the importance of maintaining purpose and perspective while building a business.
Alex Pelanne discussed the practical systems and structures she has implemented to maintain balance and joy in her life.
A Leader Grounded in Values

For Keshala Knowles, joy is deeply connected to her belief systems and core values.
She explained that her sense of fulfillment is not tied to her professional title or position but to the principles that guide her decisions.
When faced with important choices, she considers the long-term impact and whether the decision aligns with her values.
By doing so, she said she is able to confidently stand by her decisions regardless of the outcome.
Planning with Purpose
Knowles described herself as someone who is very intentional about planning. She believes that navigating life successfully requires thinking ahead and preparing for different seasons.
That mindset extends beyond her professional responsibilities and into her family life.
She shared an example involving a major family decision when her husband considered leaving his job. Instead of rushing the process, the couple carefully planned the transition and ensured they were aligned before making such a life-changing decision.
For Knowles, maintaining that alignment within her family is just as important as professional success.
The Takeaway
The conversation served as a reminder that joy is not reserved for rare moments.
It can be built intentionally through structure, values, and thoughtful decision making.
For leaders like Knowles and the other panelists, cultivating joy is not only a personal commitment. It is a framework that shapes how they lead, build culture, and influence the communities around them.
