Stories of Connection: How Myra’s Zumba Journey Fuels Her Career at CBL

Workdays for Myra Farquharson rarely begin at the office. While most people are hitting snooze, Myra is already in the studio, charging the room with the electrifying buzz of Soca music and waiting to embrace her students for the morning. For Myra, fitness and dance are more than passions—it’s a way of life.

Growing up in Inagua, professional dance opportunities were scarce. But in 2018, Myra stumbled upon her first Zumba class, and everything changed. What started as a fitness pursuit soon became a calling. Now, Myra is a dedicated and experienced instructor, leading groups of people on their own fitness journeys while fulfilling her burning passion for dance.

“I love to see mothers and wives who work all day just take one hour to be themselves. That’s what fuels me,” she says.

For Myra, Zumba is both a morning rush and an evening release—a cycle of energy that fuels both her personal and professional life. “Zumba has helped with my memory, movement, and mobility, especially in a corporate environment where we sit a lot.”

As Senior Planning and Marketing Operations Coordinator at Cable Bahamas, Myra thrives in a challenging role that demands precision, execution, and collaboration. Her experience as an instructor, where she leads nearly 18 routines per class, translates seamlessly into her daily role in operations. The meticulous planning, organization, and discipline required for Zumba strengthen her ability to tackle the demands of her job.

Despite her expertise, Myra admits that maintaining balance can be tough. “Just get started,” she advises, acknowledging the hardest part of the day is getting to the studio. From there, the music simply takes over and the day becomes easier with each routine. “I tell my class every morning that I just need you to show up. Your body wants this more than your mind thinks it does.”

With upcoming new year initiatives like Fibr Fit, Myra is excited to bring her two worlds even closer together, offering colleagues and customers the chance to experience the joy of Zumba. “It’s a way to showcase not only my journey but also the talents of other instructors,” she says.

For Myra, Zumba is a door to a more empowered self in every area of life and she’s ready to open it wide for others to step through.
